NFC Forum Chairman Koichi Tagawa Participating in Payments Panel at National Retail Federation Event, Jan. 14

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Jan. 13, 2014 – The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that advances the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, today announced that Forum Chairman Koichi Tagawa will address attendees at the National Retail Federation’s 2014 Annual Convention & EXPO, in a panel discussion on January 14 entitled “Win, Lose or Draw – Outlook for Retail Payments.” The event takes place at the Javits Center in New York City.

Near Field Communication Forum Announces New Vice Chairmen, Trevor Pavey and Alexander Rensink

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Dec. 17, 2013 – The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that advances the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, today announced two newly elected Vice Chairmen of its Board of Directors, Trevor Pavey of Broadcom Corporation and Alexander Rensink of NXP Semiconductors. They replace Mohamed Awad of Broadcom, who has taken on a new role and responsibilities at the company.

Near Field Communication Forum and Bluetooth SIG Establish a Formal Liaison Relationship

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Nov. 12, 2013 – The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that advances the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, and the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), the trade association responsible for the development, promotion, and protection of the Bluetooth® specification and brand, today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding that will enable the two organizations to work more closely together, via a formal liaison relationship.

Near Field Communication Forum and IATA Publish NFC Reference Guide for Air Travel

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Oct. 30, 2013 – The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that advances the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the trade association for the world’s airlines, today announced the publication of the “NFC Reference Guide for Air Travel.” The new, comprehensive reference guide is available at no charge from the NFC Forum’s website.

NFC Forum Issues First Health Care Technical Specification and Two Candidate Technical Specifications

WAKEFIELD, Mass., USA – July 16, 2013 – The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that advances the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, has published three specifications, all of which are available now to the public for download at no charge. The three specifications are the Personal Health Device Communication (PHDC) Technical Specification, and the Connection Handover 1.3 and Signature Record Type Definition (RTD) 2.0 Candidate Technical Specifications.

Verizon Wireless and Discover Financial Services Join the NFC Forum as Principal Members

WAKEFIELD, Mass., USA – June 19, 2013 – The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that advances the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, today announced that Verizon Wireless and Discover Financial Services, LLC have become members at the Principal level. In addition, SMARTRAC has upgraded its membership to Principal, and 13 other organizations have joined the Forum since March. Overall membership now stands at more than 190 companies and non-profit groups.

NFC Forum Chairman and Vice Chairman to Deliver Keynote Addresses May 15 at NFC Solutions Summit

WAKEFIELD, Mass., USA – May 9, 2013 – The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that advances the global use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, today announced that Koichi Tagawa, Forum Chairman, and Mohamed Awad, Forum Vice Chairman, will both deliver keynote speeches on May 15 at the NFC Solutions Summit that will be held in San Francisco next week. NFC Forum Welcomes Google to Board of Directors

WAKEFIELD, Mass., USA – March 5, 2013 – The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that advances the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, today announced that Google has upgraded its NFC Forum membership from Principal to Sponsor level. Ten other organizations have joined the Forum since late November, bringing total membership to a record high of over 180 companies and non-profit groups.

NFC Forum Forges Links with Global Certification Forum, International Air Transport Association, and Wi-Fi Alliance

WAKEFIELD, Mass., USA – Jan. 8, 2012 – The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that advances the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, announced today that it has signed collaboration agreements with three industry consortia. The goal of the alliances is to facilitate joint work to further the adoption, reach, and impact of NFC technology in key markets and industries, including mobile communications, air travel, and Wi-Fi communications. Collaborative activities will include work on market education, global interoperability, and mobile testing.

WAKEFIELD, Mass., USA – Nov. 27, 2012 – The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that advances the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, today announced that Qualcomm Incorporated, a world leader in 3G, 4G and next-generation mobile technologies, has upgraded its NFC Forum membership for itself and its affiliates from Principal to Sponsor level. Sponsor membership is the highest category, and its privileges include a seat on the NFC Forum Board of Directors, which manages the organization.

New NFC Controller Interface Specification Makes It Easier to Deliver a Broad Range of NFC Devices and Solutions

WAKEFIELD, Mass., USA – Nov. 8, 2012 – The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that advances the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, has published the NFC Controller Interface (NCI) specification, which is available to the public for download at no charge. NCI is a major new specification, created from the ground up, that defines a standard interface within an NFC device between an NFC controller and the device’s main application processor.

New NFC Forum Analog Specification Clears the Path to Device Interoperability

WAKEFIELD, Mass., USA – Oct. 4, 2012 – The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that advances the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, has approved and adopted the NFC Analog technical specification, which is available now to the public for download at no charge. This new specification is a major step forward in the NFC Forum’s goal of global interoperability because it makes it easier for device manufacturers to build NFC Forum-compliant devices. It addresses the analog characteristics of the RF interface of an NFC-enabled device, and it is intended for use by manufacturers wanting to implement such devices.

EMVCo and NFC Forum Announce Collaboration to Optimize NFC Testing Processes

Sept. 5, 2012 – EMVCo and the NFC Forum have agreed to work together to optimize the development and testing processes of Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled mobile devices for vendors, through exploring alignment of the two organizations’ specifications, and cross-recognition of test results. The alliance will offer significant benefits to stakeholders involved in EMV-related NFC use cases and products in the contactless payments industry by reducing product time-to-market and decreasing certification costs.

NFC Forum and GS1 Team Up on Mobile Retail

The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that advances the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, and GS1, a not-for-profit organisation that develops global standards and solutions for supply chain efficiency and visibility, including the EPCglobal standards for RFID, today announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore synergies between NFC technology and the use of GS1 standards to better serve the developing needs of mobile commerce.
