WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Oct. 8, 2014 – The NFC Forum today announced that Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP), one of the world’s largest comprehensive printing companies, has upgraded its NFC Forum membership from Principal to Sponsor level. Twelve more organizations have recently joined the Forum at other levels.

Founded in 1876, DNP provides a variety of products and services across a wide range of business fields to consumers and some 30,000 corporate clients in Japan and around the world. From the time of its founding, the company has sought to contribute to the improvement of people’s lives and the development of society. Since the 1950s, DNP has expanded its business by finding new applications for printing technologies, going beyond printing books, magazines, and commercial materials to such fields as packaging, decorative materials, display components, electronic devices and smartcards.

“DNP makes the most of its advanced information security infrastructure in order to provide secure information services for consumers. Our representative service is smartcard manufacturing and issuing. Today, DNP is still expanding into new fields, including payment and mobile solutions,” said Terunao Tsuchiya, general manager of mobile service, Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. “We strongly believe that NFC technology and services contribute to the realization of a secure and safe society. It also enriches our user experiences and daily life.”

Sponsor level is the top tier of NFC Forum membership. It entitles an organization to a seat on the NFC Forum Board of Directors, the consortium’s governing body. Sponsor members, like Principal members, may designate individuals to run for Forum leadership positions and may appoint one voting representative to each of the NFC Forum Committees and Working Groups. Other privileges include proposing Forum initiatives and participating in the NFC Forum testing and certification program using their own in-house test labs.

“I am very pleased to welcome DNP to the NFC Forum Board of Directors at this very exciting time in the industry,” said Koichi Tagawa, NFC Forum Chairman. “As a leading NFC technology supplier with a deep commitment to supporting NFC across use cases and applications, DNP’s contributions will surely enrich the activities of our Board. The NFC ecosystem, in addition to the Forum, will benefit from the participation of DNP and our newest members, and I thank them all for their commitment.”
