A study on meal vouchers in the year 2015

Leuven (Belgium), 8 March 2010 – IBBT, a research institute of the Flemish government, has completed a study on the possibilities of replacing paper vouchers such as meal vouchers, discount coupons and gift vouchers by an electronic alternative based on Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. The research was conducted in collaboration with Clear2Pay/Integri, Keyware and Accor Services. For two years the partners analyzed different aspects of this electronic alternative such as: usability, legal aspects, security, applications and business model. The results of the so-called NFC Voucher study are promising and indicate that commercial implementation is feasible.

World’s first NFC Visitor Guidance System

NEXPERTS has implemented an innovative tourist guiding system with its partner cruso from Berlin, Germany, at Vyí Brod Monastery. Visitors can rent a special NFC-enabled guide that gives them textual, graphical and audio information on all important sights in the monastery. The multilingual system is triggered by touching a point near the sights to start the guidance. Thereby visitors can explore the content in the language they require just by a simple touch.

The NFC Forum meeting and NFC Week in Oulu, 31.8.2009 – 4.9.2009

Nokia, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, and the City of Oulu are forerunners in NFC, the touch technology spreading around the world. This has led the NFC Forum to hold their member meeting in Oulu as part of Oulu NFC Week. Over 150 representatives of NFC Forum member companies have arrived in Oulu from throughout Asia, Europe and the United States to continue the work of advancing NFC. Oulu NFC Week, arranged by Oulu Innovation, the City of Oulu, VTT , Nokia, and Technopolis, in cooperation with Invest in Finland, includes many events promoting the use of NFC technology to generate new business opportunities.
