On June 26, 2018 in London, England, we held our first NFC Innovation Day. Sponsored by Thinfilm Electronics ASA (Platinum Level), NXP Semiconductors (Gold Level), and Qubiteq (badge sponsor) the summit explored the ways NFC and IoT are strengthening brands and delivering remarkable customer experiences.

NFC Innovation Day kicked off with a product showcase featuring the 2018 Innovation Award finalists. The VISIONFC Simplifying IoT Summit then provided attendees with the opportunity to hear real-world IoT case studies from retail, brand, and product companies. NFC Innovation day concluded with the NFC Innovation Award Celebration, where three of the nine finalists and an additional ‘People’s Choice’ were awarded.

Alexander Rensink is business segment manager in the Business Unit Security & Connectivity at NXP Semiconductors. At NXP, Alexander drives a business that establishes the further deployment of contactless technology into a multitude of applications, including access management, loyalty, micropayments, device pairing, smart media and gaming. Throughout his career, he has gained considerable ecosystem experience in working with infrastructure suppliers, application developers and service providers to deliver end-to-end solutions for vertical markets. Prior to joining NXP’s Security & Connectivity business unit in 2007, Alexander worked at Philips Digital Networks and later Philips Semiconductors in marketing, business development, and strategy roles. Alexander has served on the NFC Forum Board of Directors since March 2012 and was elected Vice Chairman in December 2013. Alexander studied Electrical Engineering and holds a Ph.D. degree.

Dr. Davor Sutija is CEO of Thin Film Electronics ASA. Prior to joining Thinfilm in January 2010, he was Senior Vice President, Product Marketing, at FAST (a Microsoft subsidiary) and founding CEO at SiNOR AS, a producer of electronic and PV-grade silicon ingots. He was a board member for the Organic Electronics Association (OE-A) from 2012 through 2015, and has also served on the boards of technology firms SensoNor, Birdstep, and Owera. He is currently a member of the Orbotech Advisory Board.

Dr. Sutija is a highly sought-after speaker and presents worldwide on topics including the Internet of Things, the convergence of the physical and digital worlds, and the future of smart packaging. He was a keynote speaker at Mobile World Congress 2015. Dr. Sutija graduated from the Jerome Fisher Management and Technology program at the Wharton School and has a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, in Chemical Engineering. He was a Hertz Fellow at Lawrence Berkeley Labs.

At NXP, she's driving IoT applications that connect brands directly with consumers, and provide visibility in the supply chain. This is done by adding digital NFC connectivity, security and intelligence to physical products to make them smart, interactive and traceable through the full product lifecycle. In this role, she’s also driving NPI and value-add NFC services.

Bio: Pierre Métivier shares his passion for NFC in a blog called Avec ou Sans Contact. He is also the author of the book Le mobile NFC: Télécommande de notre quotidien. Pierre's industry experience includes managing Forum SMSC, a French association aiming at the deployment of NFC mobile services in France. In this role, he has participated in numerous conferences, panels, TV, and radio shows, including the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Bio: Vinnett has spent her career acting as entrepreneurial and commercial lead of multi-million £ partnerships opportunities and has a long successful track record of first to market launches. She is a Non-Executive and mentors and invests in several start-ups from Cloud security and video surveillance, delivering machine learning and artificial intelligence to Smart Connected Thermostats. Currently, Vinnett is Head of Internet of Things (IoT) at O2, Telefonica UK, where she leads a dedicated team.

Paula Hunter manages the day-to-day affairs of the NFC Forum under the direction of the Chairman, Officers, and Board of Directors with responsibility for strategic planning and direction, membership development, budgeting, evangelism for the Forum and its mission, and outreach to liaison and vertical market partners. She has almost two decades of executive technology association management experience beginning in 1999 when, while working for Compaq, she was a founding board member for the ASP Industry Consortium. Ms. Hunter has served as Executive Director of the NFC Forum since 2013. Her experience also includes key roles in several technology companies, ranging from small start-ups to large multi-national corporations.

Koichi Tagawa, co-Chairman, NFC Forum, has been with the organization since its founding in 2004. During his leadership tenure, he has been an advocate for NFC market expansion and has overseen the development of 20 standards-based specifications which are the foundation for interoperable NFC-based solutions worldwide. Mr. Tagawa is the General Manager of Global Standards and Industry Relations at the C & I Center in Dai Nippon Printing Co. Ltd. (DNP). Prior to DNP, Mr. Tagawa worked in the consumer electronics industry at Sony for 41 years. He is now devoted to promoting the expansion of NFC solution businesses worldwide by fusing he consumer-oriented background with his passion for NFC technology.
