The goal for the Vision NFC event is to foster wider industry dialogue, collaboration, and innovation, as we look towards a more transparent and sustainable future. Ensuring sustainability is a key area of strategy for NFC Forum, with a commitment to establishing standards that align with sustainable product development and foster seamless user experiences across all geographies, industries, and products.
More information and the full Vision NFC agenda will be available soon.
Championing sustainability
The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is an initiative that is essential in achieving more sustainable supply chains which can effectively operate at scale. The European Union is beginning to mandate the DPP across various industries in the next few years, with the goal of creating a digital record that provides comprehensive product data throughout its entire lifecycle.
Almost all standards body today are specifying NFC technology as a data carrier to connect products to DPP data. The NFC Forum is currently exploring the creation of the NFC Digital Product Passport (NDPP) standard, helping to develop data content standardization to help NFC fulfil its role in the circular economy.
NFC Digital Product Passport (NDPP) will be a standard where chips and tags can store a link to connect products to an online DPP accessed from a standard consumer mobile phone. The NDPP Standard also plans to allow some or all DPP data to be directly stored then embedded into products using the same chip or tag used for an online DPP connection.
