NFC Forum Appoints Mike McCamon As Executive Director
Technology and Association Executive To Lead Next NFC Technology Growth Phase
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – November 4, 2019 – The NFC Forum, the global standards and advocacy association for Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, appointed Mike McCamon as its new Executive Director today.
“We are excited to have an executive of Mike’s caliber in a leadership position at the NFC Forum,” said Koichi Tagawa, chairman, NFC Forum. “NFC technology is used by billions of people every day. Mike’s task is to lead NFC technology on its next growth phase with the goal of delivering a consistently positive user experience around the world, however it is used.”
McCamon has over 30 years of experience leading technology initiatives and global teams focused on improving people’s lives. Demonstrating a wide range of skills and passions he has been both the inaugural executive director of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group and later on the executive team that launched Water.org. He also led high growth teams at Apple, Iomega, Intel and a number of startups.
“The NFC Forum is a mature, member-led organization that launched and developed one of the most prolific and versatile technologies on the planet. My role is to build on this success, improve the user experience, and further grow its adoption,” said Mike McCamon, executive director, NFC Forum. “A standard feature on smartphones, NFC use is exploding in diverse industries like mobility, identity and transportation; retail and payment; Internet-of-things and automotive markets due to its usefulness, security, and ultra-low power requirements. The positive impact NFC technology is having on consumers worldwide will only grow in magnitude over the next five-to-10 years.”
Elected by a vote of the NFC Forum Board of Directors to the position of Executive Director, McCamon presides over the day-to-day affairs of the NFC Forum under the direction of the Chairman, Officers, and Board of Directors. His responsibilities include strategic planning and direction, membership development, budgeting, evangelism for the Forum and its mission, and outreach to liaison and vertical market partners.

The NFC Forum was launched as a non-profit industry association in 2004 by leading mobile communications, semiconductor, and consumer electronics companies. The Forum’s mission is to advance the use of Near Field Communication technology by developing specifications, ensuring interoperability among devices and services, and educating the market about NFC technology. The Forum’s global member companies are currently developing specifications for a modular NFC device architecture, and protocols for interoperable data exchange and device-independent service delivery, device discovery and device capability. Only member companies can participate in the Forum’s certification program of NFC devices, readers and tags.
